Midnight in Paris
Ensnared by French history, literature, and art for almost all of my teenage years, I was still amazed by the city's beauty when I first arrived in Paris. While according to Goethe "only in Rome is it possible to understand Rome", the same thing can be said for Paris, la Ville des Lumières. My short stay in Paris allowed me to better comprehend France. Only in the Louvre was I able to understand the magnificence of the French Revolution; only in the Château de Versailles was it possible to truly realize the fate of Louis XVI the way Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" describes it; only in Cathédrale Notre-Dame was I able to find the true meaning behind Victor Hugo's tour-de-force Notre-Dame de Paris. Visiting Paris –– the city of illusions, fantasies, and discoveries –– was a dream come true for me.
